Point 1
BLACKNESS IS NOT A MONOLITH
Blackness is represented in every form through different subcultures. This means that “black art“ does not adhere to a specific aesthetic to be replicated or stereotyped.
Color Blindness is unacceptable. Our identity as Black people is existential and should be acknowledged and respected, as our identities as a people has been historically stripped away.
Point 2
RESPECT OUR COMMUNITY
No one member of the Black community is the sole spokesperson.
All Black voices need to be represented and affirmed; LGBTQIA+, disabled, neurodivergent, etc.
If an organization or business is serving the Black community, there must be Black representation in various, crucial roles within that organization.
This community is happy to offer its unique perspective, but the journey of racial education does not begin or end with us. Utilize resources already available to aid your own research.
Point 3
RESPECT OUR ORGANIZATION, OUR MEMBERS, AND THEIR LABOR
All labor must be paid unless stated otherwise by the artist. Exposure is unacceptable.
Black voices will be valued year round, across all topics. Not solely during Black history month, diversity events, or social justice movements.
Communicate all requests through the proper channels. The Guild has the power to reject what does not serve our community.
